Jerry Lewis Hospitalized

Comedic actor Jerry Lewis is in the hospital to kick a dependency on medication he took for pulmonary fibrosis, a respiratory condition that increases fibrous tissue in the lungs. Lewis's manager said Friday (November 14th) that the 77-year-old entertainer has been bedridden for several weeks at a Las Vegas hospital while weaning himself from the steroid medication called prednisone. Prednisone caused the bloating that altered Lewis's appearance in recent years.

Lewis's agent, Jeff Witjas, told AP, quote, "The important thing is he's fine and I would say in a few months he's going to be active again in the business. He's slimming down to his normal weight. This is all a good thing."

Lewis checked himself into the hospital voluntarily on October 13th. He's expected to be released in time to perform at the Orleans Hotel And Casino in March.

Lewis's recent ailments include pulmonary fibrosis, spinal meningitis, and diabetes.
