May 2007The Woman Who Raised Me
by: Victoria Rowell
Synopsis
As a ward of the state, actress Victoria Rowell spent her childhood shifting through the system and into the arms of family members and foster providers, teachers and coaches, social workers and shelter providers, who nurtured and raised her. Among them was Bertha Taylor, who took Victoria in at three weeks, and planted early seeds of self-esteem. Agatha Armstead introduced her to ballet, and made it possible for her to train with the finest teachers. The birth of Victoria's own daughter allowed her to experience elements of childhood she was not able to on her own, and showed Victoria how well she'd been taken care of, despite having been "motherless." Inspiring and heartfelt, this is a loving tribute to all who gave so unselfishly to create a remarkable woman.
