Working Diva's guide on Paying of your credit cards
Every month when you pay your credit cards how do you feel? Drained, angry, overwhelmed? I know it makes me cringe knowing the money could be going somewhere else. Carrying credit card debt month after month is stressful. But when you put together a "pay off plan" and follow it; you will feel more determined, energized and have a sense of accomplishment. Right now make a commitment to pay off your credit cards. Let me give you some positive insight. As you pay down your credit cards you will raise your credit score, free up money on a monthly basis when you pay off a credit card and ultimately...having more money to save for retirement. Come on sistas...let's get it done.
1. Collect all your credit card statements and sort them by interest rate or by the balance with the least amount owed. Get a note book and write down the name of the credit card, the amount you own, the interest rate, an minimum payment. Add up all the amounts you own and write the total amount of your debt at the bottom of the page. Don't let the amount frustrate you. Remember you are on the path to financial freedom.
2. Pay the minimum every month on all cards. However, with the first card on your pay off grid try to pay more than the monthly minimum so you can pay it off quicker. Be diligent and faithful about paying off your credit cards and review your pay off grid every month.
3. Once you have paid off the first credit card, take the money from the first credit card and apply it to the minimum payment to the second credit card on your pay off grid. For example, if you were paying your first credit card $100-dollars and your second $40-dollars. You will now pay the second credit card $140-dollars.
4. Use this system until you are credit card debt FREE. Now, if you want to take it to the next level. Take the money you used to pay your credit cards and apply it to your car note or principle of your mortgage.
During this period try and cut down on additional spending like eating out and shopping. Remember Ledesi "I can't even buy that dress on sale, but it's ALRIGHT."
Good luck and let me know of your progress.
