The government has adopted the following theme for the 2010 Census. “If you don’t look backwards, we can’t move forward”.

It’s true.

What is the Census?

• It’s the government’s attempt to count us, all of us.
• It’s done every 10 years and it’s critical to determining the amount of dollars states get in federal funding.

If you don't fill out the Census form, don’t complain when and if Florida gets shortchanged in federal $$$. It’s as simple as that.

Many Black people have historically been averse to “the man” tracking our whereabouts and for justifiably good reason.

The Census, however, is not one of the times Black people need to stay ‘off the grid’. We need to be counted. The forms are beginning to go out now. It takes about 10 minutes to complete. When it arrives in the mail, fill it out and send it back, right away.

Would you throw away money? That’s literally what you’ll be doing if you don’t fill out your Census form. And the 2010 Census could translate into some extra money in your pocket right way.
