‘Lilo and Stitch’ remake is Disney’s next live-action project

Disney apparently has plans to bring another cartoon classic to life on the big screen in live-action form.

This time "Lilo & Stitch" is being reimagined as a live-action/computer-generated combination film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mike Van Waes is writing the film and it will be produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The producer pair is also currently working on the live-action version of "Aladdin."

The story line of the original film focused on a blue alien who was created to be Experiment 626, a destructive power, but finds love, and eventually a family on the big island of Hawaii with a lonely girl named Lilo.

It took home $273 million at the box office when it was released in 2002, Variety reported.

The movie also spurred multiple direct-to-TV or video movies and a television series, as well as, merchandising, character greetings at the Disney parks and cruise line.

The Hollywood Reporter said the film could be for the big screen or Disney's new streaming service that launches next year.

This is not the only live-action version of a Disney classic that will be released in the near future. Disney has already had box office success with new versions of "Cinderella," "The Jungle Book" and "Beauty and the Beast." It also has live-action movies in various stages of planning with new versions of "Mulan," "The Lion King," "The Little Mermaid."

"Dumbo," by Tim Burton will hit theaters in March.
